December 9, 2009 – Franklin Parks Liquors (pictured below) opened its doors for business after the retail fit out was successfully completed allowing them to open in time for the holiday season. Located at the new constructed Franklin Commons which consists of two 10,800 square foot retail strip malls and a 21,600 square foot, two story medical office building.

November 14, 2009 – Phelps Superintendant David Heller Wins Gold! David Heller (below) won the Gold Medal at the North American Grappling Championship on November 14, 2009. We are all very proud of Dave and his accomplishment.

October 22, 2009 – The Brick City Coffee Company held the grand opening of their café completed by Phelps Construction Group. The ribbon cutting ceremony (pictured below) was attended by Newark Mayor Cory Booker, New Jersey Devils Owner’s Jeff Vanderbeek and Michael Gilfillan, and of course the New Jersey Devils mascot. The Café is located in Newark on Lafayette Street under the VIP parking garage adjacent to the “Rock”.

September 8, 2009 – The Boys and Girls Club of Northwest New Jersey started classes in their new Early Education Center. An addition to their existing facility in Wayne, the Early Education Center consists of new classrooms, offices and extensive site upgrades including the addition of a new playground facility. Established in 1970 the Boys and Girls Club mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

June 25, 2009 – The grand opening of the Wyckoff Family YMCA’s new Watt-McBride Lake House was held in the multipurpose room of this new facility completed by Phelps Construction Group. The grand opening reception which was attended by many local dignitaries was followed by a concert on the beach by “Jimmy and the Parrott’s”. This project entailed building a new lake pavilion on the northern shore of Spring Lake located at the Wyckoff Family YMCA which is the largest YMCA in the state of New Jersey. This two story facility which is clad in a stone veneer and clapboard siding will feature a commercial kitchen, bathrooms, life guard offices and multipurpose program space on the second floor.

June 22, 2009 – Freeman officially opened its new Offices for their Metropolitan New York branch location. The project completed by Phelps Construction Group entailed the conversion of an existing warehouse in Kearny, New Jersey into 25,000 square feet of state of the art office space. Headquarter in Dallas Texas; Freeman is the leading provider of integrated services for face-to-face marketing and brand building events, including expositions, conventions, corporate events, meetings and exhibit programs.

June 21, 2009 – The Rite of Dedication Ceremony, marking the opening of The Church of St. Denis, was held on what was the 100th anniversary of this Manasquan, New Jersey Parish. This project was the addition and renovation to this historic church and consisted of extensive interior renovations including the reconfiguring of the existing Nave and Sanctuary area along with the replacement of all the interior finishes and MEP systems. The project also includes an addition which houses the gathering space and an exterior raised plaza which also serves as an outdoor gathering space. The new addition features exterior stone work to match the existing facade of this landmark church. Pictured below are Douglas Phelps, President and Craig Verhasselt, Project Executive of Phelps Construction Group along side The Most Reverend John M. Smith, the Bishop of Trenton. During the Ceremony Phelps Construction Group along with the Architect Anthony Genovese had the honor of handing the plans of the completed project over to the Bishop.

April 23, 2009 – Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey has awarded Phelps Construction Group the contract for the renovations to Brower Commons at their College Avenue Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey. This high profile project includes the renovations and fit out of conference rooms and the President’s dining room which was previously destroyed by fire. The President’s dining room which features extensive high end millwork and finishes will be completed in time for the fall semester.

April 22, 2009 – Phelps Construction Group has been awarded the Brick City Café project located at the Prudential Center in Newark. This project consists of the construction of a Café which will be located on Lafayette Street under the VIP parking garage adjacent to the “Rock”.

April 2, 2009 – Phelps Construction Group has been awarded, by Beth Am Shalom, the construction contract for their new 17,000 square foot Synagogue in Lakewood, New Jersey. The Synagogue, designed by Spiezle Architectural Group, will feature a sanctuary, banquet hall, classrooms, library and staff offices.

March 9, 2009 – A ground breaking ceremony was held for the addition of the Early Education Center to the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest New Jersey located in Wayne. The ceremony, which marks the start of construction by Phelps Construction Group, was attended by the President of the Boys and Girls Club, several board members, officers of the club and local officials including the Mayor of Wayne.

January 5, 2009 – Phelps Construction Group was awarded a contract by the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest New Jersey. This exciting project entails the addition of an early education center to the Boys and Girls Club. The addition consists of new classrooms along with renovations to the existing facility. Also included in the project are extensive site upgrades including the addition of a new playground facility. December 23, 2008 – The ground breaking ceremony was held for the new Freeman Offices in Kearny New Jersey. The ceremony was attended by Officers of Freeman, Hudson County officials and all the employees at Freeman’s Kearny facility. Headquarter in Dallas Texas; Freeman is the leading provider of integrated services for face-to-face marketing and brand building events, including expositions, conventions, corporate events, meetings and exhibit programs. The project entails the fit out of an existing warehouse, located in Kearny New Jersey, to house the new Offices for their Metropolitan New York branch location.

December 1, 2008 – After completing numerous renovation projects at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, Phelps Construction Group has been awarded the Lake Pavilion Project. This project entails building a new lake pavilion on the northern shore of Spring Lake located at the Wyckoff Family YMCA. This two story facility which will be clad in a stone veneer and clapboard siding will feature a commercial kitchen, bathrooms, life guard offices and a general purpose program space on the second floor.

November 29, 2008 – Phelps Construction Group sponsored and participated in the annual Boonton Santa Parade which went down Main Street in Boonton ending at Boonton Santa land. (See attached picture)

September 4, 2008 – The National Park Service awarded Phelps Construction Group the Contract for the upgrade to the Administration Building on Liberty Island.

September 2, 2008 – Phelps Construction Group has been awarded two projects by the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island foundation. The first project is the initial phase of the New Peopling of America Center at Ellis Island National Monument. This phase entails the necessary hazardous material, environmental cleanup and demolition work required for the completion of the new environmentally controlled storage space for artifacts. The existing artifacts storage space will be used to house the new museum. The Peopling of America Center will expand on the Ellis Island immigration museum to tell the story of the millions of Immigrants past and present who did not share the Ellis Island experience. The second project involves completing various site upgrades on Liberty Island. These upgrades include work on the Ferry Dock at Liberty Island which serves as the entrance point to the nearly two million people who visit to the Statue of Liberty National Monument each year. Work is also being done to repair the granite and brick masonry site walls and aluminum fencing around the island.
